I am in my third year of organising the local Memory Walk with Jo Wilde for the Alzheimer’s Society. Previously Jo and I have organised this by ourselves but we had such a lot of interest last year so we designed a committee to help us and this year it is going swimmingly.

Being with the committee group has been great to generate and discuss new ideas and this year our event will be better than ever. Not only do we have two walks but we also have various stalls inc: raffle, cake stalls, guess the name of the monkey (I think it should be called Dave), guess how many sweets in the jar, face painting and some craft stalls.

It takes a lot of advertising to get an event off the ground and I had great fun talking on the radio promoting our event.

I would like to pay a special thanks to TMS Media for writing our press releases,  and the Lowestoft Journal and the Beach Radio for their support. Would also like to thank local businesses that have donated fab raffle prizes and their names will be in the post walk article in the newspaper.

Thanks to the fab committee for all their hard work: Jo Wilde, Linda Harmer, Liana Moyse, Estelle Tasker, Carla Neve, Phil Mummery, Lucy Rayner, Helen Thwaites and Enid Thwaites.

Get Writing!

The Waveney Author Group (WAG) had their first library event at Southwold Library yesterday (Mon 17th Aug 2015). A lovely small library, managed by Charlotte Clark. Although small it has nearly everything, in fact it would be hard to find what it doesn’t have.

Before starting this author event a holiday maker popped in with some courgettes that had grown into marrows (she had popped home to Norfolk to check on her garden) and asked Charlotte if she would like to sell them, along with the plants that the library was selling. The courgettes /marrows were huge!

Here are some photos, in no particular order:

With my author hat on I attended the first East Anglian author fair at the end of July at the fabulous Coconut Loft Art Gallery on Waterloo Road. This gave locals an opportunity to ‘meet the author’  with twelve authors from across Norfolk and Suffolk, including: Helen Thwaites, Caroline Way, Hannah Precious, Ian Robb, Terry Tarbox, Pam Finch, Bronwen Grono, Jocelyn Blakey, Helen Milligan, Patricia Peters and Ann Bowyer.

The centrepiece of the event were five newly published authors who had risen to a ‘get published’ challenge set by themselves during a writing workshops last November. They formed the group Waveney Author Group (WAG) and go on tour later this month.

I’m looking forward to The  2nd Annual event which will take place next July and an interim ‘meet the authors’ weekend will be held at the Coconut Loft on the 5th & 6th Dec.

Author places are selling well, with only a few places left. For more information pop along to www.getwriting.co.uk

Today we met in Beccles Library to discuss social networking, after all, if you’re writing a book you want people to know about it, right? We had intended looking at all aspects of social networking and started by booting up the laptops and looking at blogging using the WordPress site. We soon found that the WiFi connection was not strong enough for us all to be on line at the same time and unfortunately we achieved very little but we had fun. Many thanks to all at Beccles Library for letting us use their room.
